Okavango adventure part 3Using technology in the wild
All kinds of technology in wildest Africa
Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the largest inland delta in the world, so large in fact that it can be seen from space! This amazing wetland is an iconic safari location, abundant in wildlife and known as “The Jewel of the Kalahari”. Previously on 50|50, I joined in the Annual Okavango Delta Wetland Bird Survey as we searched for and counted birds, travelling to the heart of the delta where no helicopter can fly or boat can enter. These expeditions are truly beautiful but are not a simple as they look! The amount of effort and technical skill required is immense. In this episode I investigate the scientific side of these voyages and find out how the team navigates through the delta, comparing modern technology with traditional methods. We talk about how the team manages to avoid dangerous wildlife and how new technology allows us to produce a live internet Okavango transect – all without using a drop of fuel!
